Ironwork in architecture

John Dittmeier and Paul Vos established a relationship between architecture, obtaining ironwork by blacksmiths and the elaboration of a forged banister.

A beautiful presentation on Art Nouveau and modern designs that can be found in today's buildings. Advice was given on how to talk to Architects and clients on how to incorporate more elaborate wrought iron designs into modern structures and an in-depth look at the work done on a staircase found in France where very interesting anchors and joints can be seen along with a unique design in this work of art from the early 20th century. The way in which the handrail surface is polished was also a topic of discussion.
All the participants were very interested in the analysis of the staircase and gave their opinions on the dilemma of simplicity of current works in modern architecture.

Unfortunately, the instructive discussion could not end with hard conclusions about welding and how polishing was done in the early 20th century. It remained with assumptions and perhaps a good subject for a next time. And a wise quote from Steve: ‘Start thinking your finishing with the first hammer blow!’.

John and Paul found 10 very engaged and enthousiastic listeners from 7 countries with whom they shared their experiences and answered just as many questions.
